Dear correspondents,

This week, Thursday 27 and Friday 28 February, as part of a group of MEPs of the European Parliament’s Budgetary Control (CONT) committee, I will travel to the Czech Republic to meet with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, members of the government and other officials, journalists and NGOs. The fact finding mission to the Czech Republic comes in the wake of European Commission audits into the PM’s Agrofert group of companies. The Commission has found that Andrej Babiš has conflicts of interest between his business dealings and his role as Prime Minister. Babiš avoided a visit to the European Parliament despite most other heads of state and government having done so recently. Now we confront him with these questions in person. While negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) are still going on and Greens ask for more money for the EU budget, we need to make sure no funds are spend against the rules.

There will be a press conference in Prague on Friday at 15h00 at the office of the European Parliament, Jungmannova 745, 110 00 Nové Město, Prague. If you are interested in attending this press conference, please send a short mail with your details to cont-secretariat@ep.europa.eu for accreditation and to daniel.freund@europarl.europa.eu. For those who cannot attend in person, we will livestream the press conference. Please send an e-mail with the name of your medium to daniel.freund@europarl.europa.eu

Should you wish to know more or arrange interviews, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

With kind regards
Daniel Freund
